Overview

CVE-2021-32052 is a medium-severity vulnerability affecting djangoproject django. It was published on May 6, 2021 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.1 (MEDIUM).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.1, rated MEDIUM. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

In Django 2.2 before 2.2.22, 3.1 before 3.1.10, and 3.2 before 3.2.2 (with Python 3.9.5+), URLValidator does not prohibit newlines and tabs (unless the URLField form field is used). If an application uses values with newlines in an HTTP response, header injection can occur. Django itself is unaffected because HttpResponse prohibits newlines in HTTP headers.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from djangoproject. Update django to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
