Published Jun 22, 2021 eclipse CWE-613 EPSS 0.96% (59th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2021-34428 is a low-severity vulnerability affecting eclipse jetty. It was published on June 22, 2021 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 2.9 (LOW).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 2.9, rated LOW. It requires local or adjacent network access to exploit. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

For Eclipse Jetty versions <= 9.4.40, <= 10.0.2, <= 11.0.2, if an exception is thrown from the SessionListener#sessionDestroyed() method, then the session ID is not invalidated in the session ID manager. On deployments with clustered sessions and multiple contexts this can result in a session not being invalidated. This can result in an application used on a shared computer being left logged in.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from eclipse. Update jetty to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
