Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

pinctrl: devicetree: fix null pointer dereferencing in pinctrl_dt_to_map

Here is the BUG report by KASAN about null pointer dereference:

BUG: KASAN: null-ptr-deref in strcmp+0x2e/0x50

Read of size 1 at addr 0000000000000000 by task python3/2640

Call Trace:

of_find_property

pinctrl_dt_to_map

kasprintf() would return NULL pointer when kmalloc() fail to allocate.

So directly return ENOMEM, if kasprintf() return NULL pointer.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2022-49832?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2022-49832 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
