Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ext4: avoid resizing to a partial cluster size

This patch avoids an attempt to resize the filesystem to an

unaligned cluster boundary. An online resize to a size that is not

integral to cluster size results in the last iteration attempting to

grow the fs by a negative amount, which trips a BUG_ON and leaves the fs

with a corrupted in-memory superblock.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2022-50020?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2022-50020 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
