Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf: fix check for attempt to corrupt spilled pointer

When register is spilled onto a stack as a 1/2/4-byte register, we set

slot_type[BPF_REG_SIZE - 1] (plus potentially few more below it,

depending on actual spill size). So to check if some stack slot has

spilled register we need to consult slot_type[7], not slot_type[0].

To avoid the need to remember and double-check this in the future, just

use is_spilled_reg() helper.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2023-52462?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2023-52462 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
