Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

HID: multitouch: Correct devm device reference for hidinput input_dev name

Reference the HID device rather than the input device for the devm

allocation of the input_dev name. Referencing the input_dev would lead to a

use-after-free when the input_dev was unregistered and subsequently fires a

uevent that depends on the name. At the point of firing the uevent, the

name would be freed by devres management.

Use devm_kasprintf to simplify the logic for allocating memory and

formatting the input_dev name string.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2023-53454?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2023-53454 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
