Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

KVM: arm64: vgic-its: Avoid potential UAF in LPI translation cache

There is a potential UAF scenario in the case of an LPI translation

cache hit racing with an operation that invalidates the cache, such

as a DISCARD ITS command. The root of the problem is that

vgic_its_check_cache() does not elevate the refcount on the vgic_irq

before dropping the lock that serializes refcount changes.

Have vgic_its_check_cache() raise the refcount on the returned vgic_irq

and add the corresponding decrement after queueing the interrupt.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2024-26598?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2024-26598 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
