Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

mmc: sdhci: Fix max_seg_size for 64KiB PAGE_SIZE

blk_queue_max_segment_size() ensured:

if (max_size < PAGE_SIZE)

max_size = PAGE_SIZE;

whereas:

blk_validate_limits() makes it an error:

if (WARN_ON_ONCE(lim->max_segment_size < PAGE_SIZE))

return -EINVAL;

The change from one to the other, exposed sdhci which was setting maximum

segment size too low in some circumstances.

Fix the maximum segment size when it is too low.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2024-42242?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2024-42242 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
