Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: inet: do not leave a dangling sk pointer in inet_create()

sock_init_data() attaches the allocated sk object to the provided sock

object. If inet_create() fails later, the sk object is freed, but the

sock object retains the dangling pointer, which may create use-after-free

later.

Clear the sk pointer in the sock object on error.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2024-56601?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2024-56601 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
