Overview

CVE-2025-38238 is a high-severity vulnerability. It was published on July 9, 2025 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8 (HIGH).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8, rated HIGH. It requires local or adjacent network access to exploit. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: fnic: Fix crash in fnic_wq_cmpl_handler when FDMI times out

When both the RHBA and RPA FDMI requests time out, fnic reuses a frame to

send ABTS for each of them. On send completion, this causes an attempt to

free the same frame twice that leads to a crash.

Fix crash by allocating separate frames for RHBA and RPA, and modify ABTS

logic accordingly.

Tested by checking MDS for FDMI information.

Tested by using instrumented driver to:

- Drop PLOGI response

- Drop RHBA response

- Drop RPA response

- Drop RHBA and RPA response

- Drop PLOGI response + ABTS response

- Drop RHBA response + ABTS response

- Drop RPA response + ABTS response

- Drop RHBA and RPA response + ABTS response for both of them

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2025-38238?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2025-38238 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
