Overview

CVE-2025-38483 is a high-severity vulnerability. It was published on July 28, 2025 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.1 (HIGH).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.1, rated HIGH. It requires local or adjacent network access to exploit. Some level of privileges is required for exploitation.

Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

comedi: das16m1: Fix bit shift out of bounds

When checking for a supported IRQ number, the following test is used:

/* only irqs 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15 are valid */

if ((1 << it->options[1]) & 0xdcfc) {

However, `it->options[i]` is an unchecked `int` value from userspace, so

the shift amount could be negative or out of bounds. Fix the test by

requiring `it->options[1]` to be within bounds before proceeding with

the original test.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2025-38483?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2025-38483 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
