Technical description

A use-after-free flaw was found in mutter in the Wayland color-management ICC image-description path. A local attacker who can run a malicious Wayland client can destroy a wp_image_description_v1 resource while an asynchronous ICC file read is still in progress. When the read completes, the compositor uses the freed wl_resource, writes into freed memory, and frees a pointer derived from that memory. This can crash the GNOME session and may allow arbitrary code execution within the compositor process.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2026-108094?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2026-108094 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
